I love mountains and the outdoors.   Always have.

One of the main regrets I have about living in Hamburg is that there are no mountains anywhere near.   Nowadays all I manage is hill-walking when I visit Scotland or trips to the climbing walls in Hamburg.   Pity.

I started walking and camping through the scouting movement, of which I was an active member for many years.   Highlight of my career was the summer of 1989 - I had broken my leg in the summer of 1988 and built up a serious head of steam which I then used to drive myself to the Alps the following summer.   I went first with my friend Chris Kelly and climbed with him in the Bernese Oberland and in the Chaminix area for two months.   Chris left to go to Sandhurst and I was then joined by Mark Grey for the rest of the summer which we spent in the Chamonix area with a two week stopover in the Gardon and Buoux on the way home.   The most spectacular climb was probably the Bonatti Pillar on the Aiguille du Dru.

Check back here from time to time, I may add some more climbing stories when I have time.
